DucheneDesigns

Handmade stoneware, original paintings, and prints by Regan Duchene Flint, made at 7,000 feet in Flagstaff, Arizona — small-batch pottery trimmed and glazed by hand beneath the San Francisco Peaks. Her formal training in painting has had a profound influence on her ceramic work, shaping the color, surface, and mark-making of every piece.

The Maker

Regan Duchene Flint — mixed media artist and ceramicist at 7,000 feet.

Regan Flint has worked in many mediums — watercolor, acrylic, encaustic, oil, pastels, oil pastels, graphite and ink — and now works in ceramics, hand-throwing and hand-building stoneware in her Flagstaff studio.  She is a mixed media artist who enjoys experimenting with all sorts of techniques and materials. In painting, she often begins with intuitive but seemingly random marks that are refined by design and more deliberate mark making. Her influences include Mark Rothko, Meredith Pardue and Rex Ray.

She grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota, where there is a vibrant art scene. Her first shows began at her local junior high and high schools, along with an entry at the Minneapolis Art Institute as a senior in high school. She attended Ricks College on an art scholarship and was accepted into the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she worked one on one with her mentor, Robert Marshall, for her final year and a half. At BYU she had a solo exhibit called “Calla Lilies — One by One,” which led to signing with the Repartee Gallery in Orem, Utah.

Since moving to Arizona she has continued to produce art, and explore new techniques as she re-emerges into the art scene after caring for her growing family. Recently, she has thoroughly enjoyed exploring clay.  Regan loves to apply her previously learned artistic skills to enhance any new artistic projects. She has loved being part of the Flagstaff and Sedona artist scene in Northern Arizona, and the beautiful place she lives in continues to inspire her art.

Regan plans to keep making art here in the Flagstaff and Sedona area, and is grateful to live in a community that appreciates art and the value it brings. She hopes her work will bring others a small portion of the joy it brings her to make it.
